Meet the billionaire who is ‘too busy’ to buy his wife a birthday present

-

DONALD Trump has admitted he was ‘too busy’ to get his wife a birthday gift. The US President said that he could not be ‘running out looking for presents’ for First Lady Melania.

The billionaire, who has a full staff in the White House, apparently could not arrange for somebody to shop on his behalf. He wished his wife, who turned 48 yesterday, a happy birthday during a phone call to Fox News.

Asked what he had given her, he joked: ‘Well, I better not get into that because I may get in trouble. Maybe I didn’t get her so much. I got her a beautiful card and beautiful flowers. You know, I’m very busy to be running out looking for presents, OK?’

His claims contrast with reports that say he works only a five-hour day and spends much of his time watching TV and tweeting. His relationship with his wife has been strained of late amid reports that he slept with former porn star Stormy Daniels, one of his many alleged affairs.

This week the Trumps have been hosting French president Emmanuel Macron and his wife Brigitte on a state visit to the White House.

Mr Trump, 71, added: ‘She did a fantastic job with France. The people of France were just spellbound by their great president who just left.’

During Mr Macron’s visit Mr Trump, was filmed trying to hold his wife’s hand, awkwardly rubbing his little finger next to hers. Last year Mrs Trump was filmed swatting her husband’s hand away after they landed in Israel on an official trip.

The President’s gift to his wife contrasts with Barack Obama who had a tradition of taking his wife Michelle to a restaurant on her birthday.
