Portrait of the artist Avicii six months ago in distress
ACLIP released from Avicii’s recent documentary shows him in an extremely exhausted state, and struggling to keep his eyes open as he tries to maintain his hectic schedule.
Avicii: True Stories – which premiered just six months before his sudden death a week ago – focuses on the star informing managers and business associates of his retirement, shortly before he breaks the news to his keen followers. The Swedish DJ – real name Tim Bergling – was found dead aged 28 in Oman’s port capital, Muscat, last Friday.
In the footage, above, the award-winning artist is seen sitting in a car, battling to keep his eyes open as a work associate asked him whether he can commit to 30minute phone interviews with radio stations - with the aim of assuring fans the talented remixer is ‘back on track’. The Wake Me Up hitmaker takes a long pause in the clip, with his eyes closing, before simply responding: ‘Yeah, sure.’
In the film, the young musician, who battled alcohol and drug addiction in the past, also said he was ‘going to die’ if he did not stop performing.
He said: ‘I have been very open with everyone I work with, and everyone who knows me. Everyone knows I’ve had anxiety and that I have tried. I did not expect that people would try to pressure me into doing more gigs.
‘They have seen how ill I have felt by doing it, but I had a lot of push-back when I wanted to stop doing gigs.’
The documentary is available on Netflix in several countries, including Germany and Scandinavia.
