Teary soap star Stephanie recalls her miscarriage ordeal

-

STEPHANIE Beacham has opened up about her ‘wretched’ miscarriage, which saw her baby ‘chucked into the incinerator’ moments after he gave up his struggle for life.

Speaking during an appearance on yesterday’s Loose Women, the actress, 71, admitted to ‘trembling’ as she recalled the traumatic event, which occurred after she was hit too hard during a rehearsal.

The former Dynasty and Colbys star explained the pain of losing a child three months into her pregnancy was only worsened by the fact she was unable to see her son after the procedure, as the hospital had already disposed of him.

Stephanie branded her miscarriage with actor John McEnery completely ‘wretched’, as she had lost the baby due to injury in rehearsal. She explained the loss was made more heartbreaking by the fact it occurred at the end of her first trimester, meaning the couple had already started to think about the child’s future.

She said: ‘There’s a strange thing that happens between three or four months – you start to make plans. You already know what school it’s going to.’ However in a more shocking confession, Stephanie revealed the experience was made even more ‘dreadful’ by the fact her baby was disposed of almost immediately after her operation.

Choking back the emotion, she said: ‘I asked, after I had the procedure, if I could see him.

‘And the nurse said, “No, they are chucked into the incinerator.” I am trembling telling it. I watched the smoke as I left the hospital.’

Stephanie and John went on to welcome two daughters, Phoebe and Chloe, before they separated in 1979.
