Hughton wants rock-solid finish

- By FRANK KENT

BRIGHTON boss Chris Hughton has warned his side cannot ‘rest easy’ as they look to edge closer to Premier League survival. The Seagulls head to Burnley on Saturday seven points clear of the bottom three following the morale-boosting home draw against high-flying Tottenham last time out. It has largely been a positive first top-flight campaign since 1983 for Brighton. However, with their final three league games being against Manchester United, champions City and Liverpool, Hughton insists there can be no room for complacency. ‘It certainly feels good to have the points in the bag and we would certainly rather be in the position we have than having to chase those points, but we know we have work to do still,’ the Brighton boss said. ‘Everybody is aware of the challenge we have with the magnitude of the games we have (left this season). ‘But we will go into every game trying to get points and believing we can get points and until we are in a position where we are over the line, then of course you can’t rest easy. ‘Our mentality is that we will still need points.’ Hughton warned no-one in and around the squad can afford to switch off, thinking the job is already done. ‘You want to go into every one of these games, whatever the situation, believing you can get points but desperate to get points as well,’ the former Republic of Ireland international added. ‘We cannot afford anybody here or in the team thinking that we are closer than what we are. I think that is the best way to approach it. ‘But it is very tight and there are going to be a lot of clubs that are desperately pushing in these last games of the season.’ Elsewhere, Wigan Athletic have been fined £12,500 for the pitch invasion that followed their shock 1-0 FA Cup win over Manchester City. The Latics knocked out Pep Guardiola’s side in the fifth round in February to end City’s chance of a clean sweep of trophies. Northern Ireland international Will Grigg struck with 11 minutes left and the final whistle saw Wigan fans invade the pitch.
