It’s Pitt the younger

A boyish Brad leads gallery of stars at start of their careers

HE was a struggling actor hoping for his big break in Hollywood. But despite his pin-up looks, the 23-year-old Brad Pitt had to be persuaded to pose for a series of promotional shots in 1987.

Photographer Sandra DownieDunn says she then introduced Pitt to agent Phil Lobel. Less than four years later, he landed the part in Thelma & Louise that would propel him to stardom. Ms Downie-Dunn met Pitt at a wrap party for TV soap Dallas, in which he had a small role. ‘When I met him… I had to give him money and clothes,’ she said. ‘I told him we have to take photos of you to get your career going or go back to Missouri and hang out with your parents. He never thanked me in all those years.’ Pitt is not the only one whose old photos have been given an airing. This Morning presenters Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby showed pictures of their younger selves to ITV viewers yesterday to mark Old Headshot Day. While Schofield, 56, joked about how his hair has gone grey, Ms Willoughby, 37, revealed her colour change since a photo from her early acting days. She said: ‘Slightly closer to my natural hair colour there, I was a brunette once upon a time.’ Closer to home, Ian Dempsey yesterday retweeted a photo of himself with Zig and Zag in their Dempsey’s Den heyday. The original tweet by DoubleZCreative – Zig and Zag’s creators – read: ‘#oldheadshotday 1987 first Dempseys Den promo shots with #ZigAndZag – so long ago they were shot in B&W!!’
