Rory tackles online critics over ill mother’s care

-

RORY Cowan has told how he responded to online critics who said that he used his ill mother for publicity.

The former Mrs Brown’s Boys star, whose mother has dementia, was attacked online when he said on TV3’s The Tonight Show last month that Ireland needs more carers.

‘I can’t believe some of the things people have said,’ Rory, pictured, told the Irish Daily Mail. ‘I was on The Tonight Show talking about it, saying that the country needs more carers… One person said, “Why don’t you care for your mother yourself? You’ve gotten enough publicity out of her already.”’

The actor hit back at the claims, saying: ‘I thought, “Ah f*** off.” My mother has dementia and I can’t care for someone with that. You have to be specially trained to do that and I’m not.’

However, Rory, who left Mrs Brown’s Boys in July after 26 years with the show, said the comments didn’t hurt him. He revealed: ‘I just thought, “What kind of people would think like that?” I didn’t know the person who made the comment so I’m not going to get offended by something someone I don’t know says. I just thought, “You’d have to be some sick b ****** to think like that, that I’d be using my sick mother for publicity.”’

The 58-year-old also spoke about how he ‘hadn’t been happy’ working on Mrs Brown’s Boys for his final few years, and said he won’t be watching the show’s new series of All Round To Mrs Brown’s this summer.

‘I’ve left and when I leave something, I leave it behind me,’ he said.

‘I’m very proud of my time with Mrs Brown, but I don’t want to be looking back. I know I won’t [watch it].’
