Dr Zhivago script to fetch €170k

AN ORIGINAL typescript of the novel Doctor Zhivago which was smuggled out of the Soviet Union is expected to fetch £150,000 (€170,000) at auction.

Boris Pasternak’s classic tale was blocked by the Russian authorities for being ‘anti-Soviet’ so the author risked his life to arrange for six typescripts of the book to be sneaked out of the country.

The annotated manuscript of over 200 pages, which was completed in 1955, will be sold by Forum Auctions on May 31.
