It’s back!
Don’t miss our brilliant 12-page Championship pullout
TIPPERARY manager Michael Ryan refused to speak to the media in the wake of a disjointed Munster first-round Championship defeat to Limerick at the Gaelic Grounds.
In the wake of the county’s 1-23 to 2-14 loss — the biggest Championship defeat to Limerick since 1981 — Ryan declined to go give his standard round of interviews, a move that is hardly going to win friends and influence people.
Tipperary chairman John Devane was left to explain that Tipperary won’t in fact be talking until after their four matches in the Munster round-robin. Next up is a pressure
home game against Cork next Sunday at Semple Stadium. ‘They’re looking it as a four-match programme and they’ll talk after that,’ said Devane, who acknowledged: ‘This puts us under pressure.’ ‘I appreciate the job ye have to do and we appreciate the job Mick and the team has to do as well. It’s a tough game. We’re focusing now on Cork next Sunday. It’s four games in three weeks and it’s a new experience for everybody.’ Not fronting up to the media though only gives the impression that management lack the courage of their convictions, on a day when Tipperary were second to Limerick in so many different departments. After the second half collapse against Kilkenny in the Allianz Hurling League final, this was so far from the response Ryan (left) would have wanted. All the questions that lingered in the air afterwards? Now they will have to go unanswered.
