DNA tests could find Ana’s killer
GARDAÍ investigating the murder of Anastasia Kriegel have renewed their plea for information as they await preliminary DNA results which they hope will lead to identifying her killer.
Detectives believe the samples taken from her body will link to the schoolgirl’s killer, who brutally beat her in a vicious sexual attack.
Fourteen-year-old first-year student Ana was found naked in a disused farmhouse at Clonee Road, near Lucan, last Thursday. It is believed she was sexually assaulted and died after being beaten over the head with a number of implements, including a brick and sticks.
Blood-stained weapons were later removed from the scene for DNA and fingerprint testing by the Garda Technical Bureau.
Ana, who lived in Leixlip, Co. Kildare, with her parents and brother, was last seen alive three days before her body was found.
She vanished from St Catherine’s Park, in nearby Lucan, Co. Dublin last Monday afternoon.
In their renewed appeal, gardaí want to hear from people who may have been in the area around the time Ana went missing.
Anyone in the park from 5pm last Monday is being urged to contact Lucan Garda station on 01 6667300, the Garda Confidential Telephone Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda station.
Gardaí say they have already followed over 300 lines of inquiry into the murder, including examining the teen’s online activity and speaking with her friends.
One of those spoken to – a 13year-old boy – told authorities he was attacked by two men close to the gruesome scene where Ana was later murdered.
The teen was one of two youths traced by detectives after Ana’s body was found in the derelict premises.
It is believed he and a friend went to meet Ana in St Catherine’s Park. He claims Ana left the area ahead of him, which was the last time he saw her.
