DNA results from the scene of schoolgirl Anastasia Kriegel’s murder should reveal whether a 13-yearold boy is linked to her brutal killing.

Sources said the results, due back on Friday, should bring ‘major developments’ in the case and lead to arrests.

The naked body of the 14-yearold Leixlip schoolgirl, known as Ana, was discovered in a derelict farmhouse on Thursday of last week. She had been reported missing the previous Monday by her parents.

It is believed she was sexually assaulted and died after being beaten over the head with a brick and sticks.

as a suspect in the brutal murder of tragic teen. The boy, understood to be in first year in secondary school, is also suspected of raping the girl before beating her to death with a brick.

Investigators in the case have taken personal items, including clothing, from a number of teenage boys for forensic and DNA testing as part of their inquiry.

DNA samples were also taken from the farmhouse where Ana was found dead and from her clothing. Forensic material was also taken directly from the dead girl’s body.

While some ‘minimal and inconsequential’ DNA has already been returned to gardaí at Lucan in recent days, the ‘full results of extensive testing’ are expected back to gardaí by Friday, a source said.

‘Based on these forensic results, arrests could be imminent,’ said a senior source.

The senior source added: ‘ This young 13-year-old boy remains a suspect. Forensics will rule him in or out, it all hangs on that.’

Seasoned murder detectives were ‘shocked’ by the level of violence inflicted on 14-year-old An, who had been adopted by her parents as a two-year-old from Russia. She was well-known and loved in her school and local community.

Catherine Murphy TD, a close friend of the Kriegel family, has spoken of the devastation caused by the young girl’s death.

Blood-stained timber and bricks were recovered from the scene of the murder, a disused farmhouse in Lucan, Co. Dublin, which was regularly used as a drinking spot for teenagers.

Gardaí believe Ana, who is from Leixlip, was murdered shortly after she went missing on Monday evening of last week.

Her body was found on Thursday after an extensive search by gardaí and other agencies in west Dublin and north Kildare since she was reported missing.

Ana was last seen alive at around 5.30pm in St Catherine’s Park after leaving her home to meet friends. Floral tributes have been left at the derelict farmhouse, on the Clonee Road just outside Lucan, but the scene was still sealed off yesterday as the forensic examination continued. Local Social Democrats TD Catherine Murphy described Ana as an active child who enjoyed swimming and dancing.

Her family grew concerned when she did not answer text messages as it was ‘out of character’, Ms Murphy said, adding that the family was very anxious that anyone who may have any information should contact the gardaí. Ana was a first-year student in Confey College in Leixlip and was involved in a dance school there as well.
