- By Jane Fallon Griffin

A 20-YEAR-OLD Irishman has died after falling from an apartment block in the Spanish resort of Magaluf.

The accident is believed to have happened in the town on the Spanish island of Majorca in the early hours of yesterday morning.

The man was yesterday named locally as Thomas Owen Hughes.

His body was found at 11am by a resident of the apartments and he was pronounced dead at the scene. It is believed the accident took place just hours after Mr Hughes arrived at the Spanish town and he fell from a height of around 20 metres.

His body was discovered at the foot of the Eden Roc apartment block in the Punta Ballena area.

Just two months ago, a 19-year-old Scottish woman, Natalie Cormack, fell to her death from the seventh floor of the same hotel while attempting to climb from one room to another.

Local police are currently investigating Mr Hughes’s death.

Yesterday’s fatality was the latest in a string of incidents involving young Irish people who have fallen from high-rise buildings while abroad.

In April, Leonard Gargan, 33, suffered serious head injuries after falling from a hotel balcony in the Algarve, while in March, Donegal man Emmett Blain, 26, fell to his death from a balcony in Dubai. In January, Louise Furey, 27, died after falling from a balcony in Thailand.
