Eason store ‘luckiest in Ireland’ after racking up €25m in Lotto wins

-

IT’S A keenly contested title but Eason in Thurles believes it can now claim the title of luckiest shop in Ireland after selling almost €25million worth of jackpot tickets in the past eight months.

Owner Tom O’Toole said: ‘We’re in shock! We can’t quite believe we have sold two massive jackpot-winning tickets in quick succession. We are only recovering after selling a €7.5million Lotto jackpot winning ticket last October.

‘Never in our wildest dreams did we imagine we would be selling a €17million EuroMillions ticket.’

The shop witnessed a spike in ticket sales after last year’s win and are expecting similar again.

‘We have had a lot of people buying lottery tickets since our win in October. And we also saw an increase in scratch card sales of around 20%,’ added Tom. ‘After this we may be known as the luckiest shop in Ireland. It is fantastic for Thurles and we wish the winners the best of luck.’

Assistant store manager Joanna Loughnan said she was thrilled.

‘It is fantastic for the people of Thurles – they are local and they work local so it’s great,’ she added.

‘There has been so much excitement we can’t wait to celebrate properly.’

Thurles has had several other big wins recently, including €250,000 in April on Lotto Plus 2 and €500,000 on a scratch card in March.

A €500,000 Lotto Plus 1 winner was bought there in December as well as two scratch cards which netted €250,000 and €100,000.

The Co. Tipperary store has now collected €40,000 in knock-on prize money for selling the tickets – €25,000 for this week’s EuroMillions and €15,000 for last October’s €7.5million jackpot.
