Gardaí have four suspects in gun attack

- By Ali Bracken Crime Correspondent

GARDAÍ investigating the triple shooting that left one man dead at Katie Taylor’s father gym have a shortlist of four suspects.

They are all from Dublin’s north inner-city, it is understood, and some are known guns-for-hire.

Bobby Messett was tragically killed while Pete Taylor and Ian Britton were seriously injured in the attack early on Tuesday morning at his Bray Boxing Gym and more than a dozen men dived for cover.

A source said last night: ‘A shortlist of gunmen is being drawn up. There are four men who particularly stand out. But It is still early days.’

Gardaí are also focusing on a silver Volkswagen Caddy with Northern plates used by the gunman to flee. The car, which had Northern plates, was later found on Pigeon House Road in Ringsend, Dublin 4.

Officers are hoping to retrieve DNA from the car and have already gathered CCTV footage showing the gunman cycling from the scene.

A source said: ‘It has been a modus operandi in the past for some north inner-city criminals to dump getaway cars... and use bikes to escape back to the north inner city.’ Garda have said that Mr Taylor was the target of the attack.

And because of that it is expected that he will be issued with a Garda Information Message that gives security advice about how he can keep himself safe.

they have also said that there is no suggestion that Mr Taylor or the other men shot in the gym have any involvement in crime

A north Wicklow gang is believed to be at the centre of Tuesday’s shooting.

It considered one of the main distributors of drugs, particularly heroin in the north Wicklow and south Dublin areas.
