Love the island... by staying away from the hordes

- BY JIM MURTY

ILOVE the island, but I don’t Love Island. I found myself watching it in its first week, wearing a different hat, that of TV reviewer, and I’ll eat said hat before I watch another minute of it.

I’m told that Adam is still being a pantomime villain and the rest are preening, bitching and cussing. OK I might be a bit of a dinosaur, but I can watch all that in the World Cup... and hear a better standard of inane commentary too.

Spain are many people’s tips. But while they are packed out with Real Madrid and Barcelona players, it’s Real Mallorca for us.

It’s become our custom, and you may be the same, to come back from holiday with a footie top as a souvenir and the Son And Heir’s is Real Mallorca.

Now, of course, you can find plenty of Love Island clones on Mallorca, but the good news is you can avoid them too.

Porto Petro, a pretty fishing village 33kms to the east of capital Palma is not inundated with tourists, so you will be able to enjoy an authentic Mallorcan vibe while you’ll also want to try out the beaches of Cala Mondrago and Cala Barca nearby.

Click&Go has seven nights return flights from Dublin and half-board in a deluxe twin/double room with balcony at the 5* Star Blau Privilege Porto Petro Beach Resort & Spa from €799pp in July. Price is per person based on two adults sharing.

Visit www.clickandgo.com or call (01) 539 7777. Book by June 30.

Of course Mallorca is well served from other Irish airports too and TUI has this deal flying out of Shannon on July 28 and staying for seven nights half-board at the 4* Ca’n Picafort from €849pps.

And flying out of Ireland West Airport on July 27, seven nights B&B at the 3* Ferrer Isabel, Cala Bona from €669pps.
