BAND’S TRIBUTE

-

THE news that Dublin Bus is set to rename its bus routes will surely be bittersweet for fans of Bagatelle.

The Irish band’s hit Summer In Dublin pays homage to the popular 46A bus route, setting it squarely in the social history of the city and the public mindset.

‘I was singing a song I heard somewhere/Called Rock And Roll Never Forgets/When my humming was smothered by the 46A/And the scream of a low flying jet,’ the song goes.

The route, which travels from the Phoenix Park to Dún Laoghaire, is mentioned alongside other famous features including Grafton Street and the River Liffey.

The band are said to have influenced U2 and have shared stages with music legends including Bob Marley and Don McLean. Whether the new routes will inspire songs remains to be seen.
