Twins floated out to sea on their lilo

-

FOUR-YEAR-OLD twins were swept out to sea after the lilo they were on got dragged out by strong winds.

The children had been floating in shallow water just off Duncannon Beach in Co. Wexford at around 8.30pm on Monday when the incident happened.

They were rescued after their shocked father raised the alarm and dashed into the sea after them. He was helped by members of the RLNI, a windsurfer, local swimmers and a kayaker who all raced to the rescue.

RTÉ reported last night that Fethard RNLI was involved in the rescue of six people after the two young children drifted out to sea on their inflatable. Hugh Burke, RNLI Deputy Launching Authority warned RTÉ Drivetime of the dangers associated with lilos, saying that they are fine for swimming pools but not for the sea.
