Sunburn puts six kids in A&E

-

PARENTS are being urged to protect their children after six kids were treated for severe sunburn in Temple Street Children’s Hospital over the past 10 days.

The Dublin facility has reported a major spike in the number of youngsters hospitalised due to over-exposure to UV rays since June 25.

With high temperatures showing no signs of cooling, Helen Forristal, the Marie Keating Foundation’s nursing chief, urged parents to be extra vigilant and keep babies under six months out of the sun and away from direct sunlight.

‘Older infants and children should be kept out of the sun between 11am and 3pm and factor 50 sunscreen should be applied every two hours,’ she said.

She added children should also wear wide brim hats and wraparound sunglasses outdoors.
