Man dies after motorbike and car collision

A MAN in his 50s has been killed in a collision between a car and a motorbike in Co. Donegal.

The crash happened just after 5.30pm yesterday at the townland of Castleforward, between Burnfoot and Buncrana on the Inishowen Peninsula.

The tragedy occurred as tens of thousands of people flocked to Co. Donegal for the Irish Open Golf Championship at Ballyliffin.

The victim, who is understood to be from Co. Derry, was taken to the city’s Altnagelvin Hospital but was pronounced dead a short time later.

Forensic collision investigators arrived at the scene and have launched an investigation.

The death brings to six the number of people who have lost their lives on the county’s roads this year.

It comes less than a month after a 14-year-old schoolboy Jamie Doherty was killed while driving a car on the Inishowen peninsula.
