Rahm wants to match Seve
JON RAHM not only wants to defend his Irish Open title this week, he intends to keep coming back until he matches his idol, Seve Ballesteros, and wins the tournament for a third time. The late Seve was a triple champion between 1982 and 1986 and heads a stellar Spanish roll of honour in the event that includes Jose Maria Olazabal (1990), Sergio Garcia (1999) and Rahm (2017). ‘For many reasons, it was a very special win last year,’ recalled big-hitting Rahm. ‘It was my first European Tour win and it made me part of the history of Spanish players to win this tournament. ‘It’s a great honour and hopefully I’ll keep coming back and become a multiple champion like Seve was.’ World number five Rahm has a habit of blowing his top when he hits an errant stroke, a bit like Seve, but he has no intention of calming down. ‘I’m not going to change who I am. I mean, it’s not like I have anger problems. Who doesn’t get frustrated playing this game, right? It’s just how it is,’ said the world No 5.
