‘Rihanna can be sued here’

- By Paul Caffrey

SINGER Rihanna cannot prevent the wife of her former bodyguard from suing her in Ireland, the High Court has ruled.

The singer is being sued by Dana Kavanagh, 43, whose husband Geoffrey Keating was Rihanna’s head of security in 2012 and 2013.

Rihanna asked a judge here to declare that attempts to serve her with legal papers for the lawsuit at her New York home were invalid. But Judge Miriam O’Regan yesterday ruled that Rihanna had been lawfully served with court documents.

Ms Kavanagh, of Finglas, Dublin, is suing for damages and loss of earnings over an email and a phone call she says led to the collapse of a media firm she created with her husband.

The email allegedly contained ‘malicious falsehoods’ about Mr Keating. It is yet to be specified who exactly is alleged to have sent it. The disputed call is alleged to have been made by Rihanna.

The businesswoman says she suffered mental and emotional distress resulting from a ‘false and malicious’ email about Mr Keating sent on July 11, 2013.

Her legal action also concerns a phone call the star allegedly made to Ms Kavanagh’s sister-in-law.

Rihanna denies all claims. No date is yet set for a full hearing.
