PAST and present intermingle in HBO’s eerie adaptation of the debut novel from Gillian Flynn. At its core is a brokendown reporter (Amy Adams), dispatched by a gruff but caring editor to write about a murder in her home town. This is a slow burner, but Adams (pictured) is mesmerising in every scene.
