Fix this Brexit chaos
FOLLOWING the resignations of both David Davis and Boris Johnson, there is every possibility that other disaffected Conservative ministers will follow them out of the British cabinet.
This is bad news for Theresa May, but also for every citizen of Ireland. Right now, the last thing we need in this country is to see the British prime minister facing a leadership challenge.
It hardly needs to be spelt out that she has yet to prove herself as a great friend of ours. From the Irish perspective, however, stability is the primary requisite as this stage of the Brexit negotiations proceeds.
Against that backdrop, it would be less than helpful to see Mrs May pushed aside by some young pretender trying to further their own ambition. It goes without saying that there is much more at stake for us than for other member states as Britain moves to leave the EU.
So it is imperative for our future economic wellbeing that the Downing Street administration gets back on an even keel as quickly as possible.
