Veteran Chinese activist is jailed

CHINA has sentenced a veteran pro-democracy campaigner to 13 years in prison on vaguely defined subversion charges.

The jailing of Qin Yongmin, pictured – who has been an activist for four decades – comes one day after the widow of a Nobel Peace Prize laureate was freed from house arrest.

On Tuesday, Chinese authorities allowed Liu Xia, wife of the late Liu Xiaobo, to depart for Germany after being under house arrest since 2010.
