Mr Quinn received a single stab wound

A MAN who was knifed during a fight walked up to a passing ambulance and told paramedics ‘I have been stabbed’ before he fell to the ground.

Moments earlier Conor Quinn had been embroiled in a bitter argument with another man in Mallow, north Co. Cork.

A knife was produced and the 24year-old sustained a single, fatal wound. The entire incident, which happened on Thursday evening in front of shocked shoppers, was captured on CCTV.

Dash-cam footage has also been made available from a number of vehicles, including the ambulance.

Last night, a Garda manhunt was under way for the man with whom Mr Quinn was fighting. Detectives upgraded the incident to murder following a post-mortem.

Yesterday, they issued an appeal for the other man to come forward.

‘We are now anxious to speak to a male who we believe was present with the deceased when he sustained his injuries at approximately 8.30pm on July 12, 2018, on Bridge Street, Mallow, Co. Cork.

‘Gardaí are aware of the background circumstances which precipitated to the engagement.’

Witnesses last night claimed they saw the victim being chased by another man on Thursday around 7.30pm near the Mallow Town Park on the busy N72.

The two were then seen facing each other shouting as they traded punches and swore at each other until one of the two men ran away, chased by the other.

There are unconfirmed reports one of them was seen running towards the other carrying a lump of wood. About an hour later, the row – which is believed to have started hours earlier at a nearby horse fair, which both men are said to have attended. spilled over into tragedy. Witnesses said the man Mr Quinn had the argument with earlier was standing outside a block of apartments in Bridge Street in Mallow.

Traffic was at a standstill due to increased traffic from the Cahirmee Horse Fair in nearby Buttevant.

One of the vehicles caught up in the gridlock was the ambulance.

Witnesses have said a car pulled up abruptly beside the ambulance and Mr Quinn was seen jumping out of the car and running over to the other man.

They started fighting and a knife was produced. Mr Quinn received a single stab wound.

The other man ran away and Mr Quinn was seen walking over to the ambulance that was stuck in traffic.

Witnesses say that he told the paramedic: ‘I’ve been stabbed’ before he dropped to his knees and then fell on his side.

CCTV footage from a nearby apartment complex is believed to have captured the entire event.

Gardaí were last night appealing for witnesses and in particular anyone who travelled in and around the Mallow town area between 7.30pm and 9.30pm on Thursday and who have ‘dash cam’ footage from their vehicle.

People should contact Mallow Garda Station on 022 31450, the Garda Confidential Telephone Line 1800 666 111 or any Garda station.
