ROJO IS MAKING WAY FOR MAGUIRE

- CHRIS WHEELER reports from Ann Arbor

MANCHESTER UNITED are ready to sell Marcos Rojo to make room for Harry Maguire’s £65million move to Old Trafford. Jose Mourinho has been told he must sell before he can buy and Rojo is the odd man out among the five centre backs on United’s books. The Argentina international returned to Carrington this week following a holiday in Mexico instead of joining the club’s US tour. Although Rojo is having treatment for an injury sustained at the World Cup, it is understood he has also been holding talks over his future amid interest from Wolves and other Premier League clubs. The 28-year-old accepts he may have little choice but to leave after United decided to let him go ahead of Eric Bailly, Chris Smalling, Phil Jones and Victor Lindelof. The club’s marketing department are believed to have removed him from their branding for the new season. United could demand up to £30million for a player who cost them £16m from Sporting Lisbon four years ago. However, they have less than two weeks to sell him to help finance a move for Maguire. United have made an approach for the England defender but Leicester do not have to sell and have no desire to let Maguire follow Riyad Mahrez out of the club this summer. Maguire remains confident that he will move to Old Trafford but time is against United to complete the deal before the transfer window closes ahead of their Premier League opener — against Leicester on August 10.
