Rain reign to go away... just in time for the bank holiday

- By Liz Farsaci news@dailymail.ie

NOT every raincloud has a silver lining – but after the current deluge of downpours there is some good news, as the warm weather is to return.

And it should hot up just in time for the August bank holiday weekend, say forecasters.

Much of today and tomorrow will remain inclement, as it was over the weekend, with unsettled conditions and cooler temperatures.

Scattered showers will begin in the north and west, and then spread across the country.

A few of these showers could be heavy, with a small risk of thunder, according to Met Éireann forecaster Jean Byrne.

Rain showers will mostly fall in the north and northwest tomorrow, with temperatures cooler than what we’ve become accustomed to, and stronger breezes.

But on Wednesday, we’ll begin to see the start of the warm weather again, as a new type of weather front moves in.

‘Wednesday is a bit different,’ Ms Byrne said. ‘You’ve got a slightly warmer, more humid air mass coming up from the southwest Atlantic. It will bring a lot of cloud with occasional outbreaks of rain, and it will be misty in places – and the winds are just slight to moderate southerly ones.’

Wednesday night and into Thursday is when the nice weather expected for the bank holiday weekend is to move in in earnest.

‘There will be patches of rain on Wednesday night and into Thursday, but it looks like it will clear gradually from the west on Thursday, and hopefully it will be a bit more settled for the weekend,’ said Ms Byrne. ‘It looks like the clearer weather will come in gradually during Thursday, and then for Friday, Saturday and Sunday the charts are currently showing that it will be dry with light winds and temperatures in the high teens or low 20s.’

On Friday, Irish Water announced that it will keep water conservation orders in place for at least two weeks, despite the recent rainfall. It is advising that the situation will remain critical until at least mid-August.
