Expert Eye ready to show his class

- By SAM TURNER (Robin Goodfellow)

THE absence of star miler Alpha Centauri leaves today’s Qatar Sussex Stakes (3.35) short on glitz and glamour, but EXPERT EYE has the potential for a ‘wow’ performance even if his career has been difficult to predict.

But below-par efforts in October’s Dewhurst Stakes (when odds on) and in the Guineas left his fans questioning if he would ever realise that enormous potential. Thankfully Expert Eye is in the hands of a master and a confidence-boosting Group 3 win in the Jersey Stakes at Ascot and a return to a track he enjoys may result in a winning display.

Without Parole is without the banned Frankie Dettori but is a massive threat along with Lightning Spear.

The lightly-raced PIEDITA is unbeaten in three starts on turf over two miles and her profile suggests the stiff examination provided in the opening Matchbox Betting Podcast Handicap should be perfect. Her stable have an incredible win percentage at present.

Classy hurdler Lil Rockerfeller is an intriguing contender given his stamina, while Arthur McBride loves this track and could outrun his price.

Connections of CORGI entered the son of So You Think in the St Leger and, although that appears ambitious, the colt is capable of making a big impact in the 2.25 handicap.

The selection displayed a terrific will to win at Ascot last time when narrowly beaten by the wellregarded Baghdad.

Trainer Archie Watson is enjoying tremendous success with his juveniles this summer with one in three runners obliging, and SOLDIER’S

CALL could provide further success for the Newmarket handler in the Markel Insurance Molecomb Stakes (3.00).

There was no fluke about the selection’s Royal Ascot success in the Windsor Castle Stakes where he displayed bright speed to lead his group of rivals on the stands’ side before running on bravely to hold off a host of challengers.
