It’s back! Sunshine returns in time for bank holiday

- By Lisa O’Donnell

WE’VE been spoilt with the sunshine this summer and it’s hard to not get greedy – so thankfully it is set to return for the bank holiday weekend.

After a spell of wet and dull weather, temperatures are set to hit 23C in some areas over the coming days.

While conditions won’t reach the same levels of intense heat and sunshine that the nation has enjoyed over the past month, yesterday’s warm weather will continue throughout the weekend.

The mercury will rise to up to 23C today and tomorrow, and rise again to 24C on Sunday.

Apart from the occasional shower, conditions will be mainly dry over the weekend, with some mist or drizzle possible at times along the northwestern and northern coasts.

‘It’s not entirely dry on Friday. There could be a little rain to start the day, then it will become mostly dry with maybe an isolated shower or two,’ a Met Éireann forecaster told the Irish Daily Mail, adding that most areas will manage to avoid rain on Saturday and Sunday.

Those in the south and east of the country are most likely to see the best of the weather over the bank holiday weekend.

‘Leinster and Munster are looking like they’re going to get the best of the weather.

‘It will be slightly cloudier across the northwest and in the west.’

Heading into next week, most areas will remain dry on Monday, with temperatures set to reach 22C.

However, the sunny and dry spell isn’t set to hang around for much longer, with more ‘changeable’ weather forecasted from Tuesday onwards.

Meanwhile, temperatures on mainland Europe are expected to edge towards record-breaking levels this coming week.

According to forecasts, Spain and Portugal could reach a possible 48C, with unusually high temperatures also likely in the southwest of France.

Irish holidaymakers are being warned to exercise extra care if they intend travelling to these areas.
