- By Lynne Kelleher

A GAME of Thrones tour has been named among TripAdvisor’s top trending UK summer experiences. The global travel site has revealed that bookings for the day-long tour of the Game Of Thrones set and the Giant’s Causeway have almost doubled since last year.

The HBO show, along with the Titanic, are credited with driving a remarkable turnaround in the tourism fortunes of the region in recent years.

In 2017, more than 2.6million visitors took an overnight trip to Northern Ireland, spending nearly €750million – an increase of more than 1.1million visitors since 2000.

The full-day tour from Belfast combines a comprehensive Game Of Thrones–themed tour with a visit to the Giant’s Causeway, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Over the past year, TripAdvisor said there has been a 179% surge in demand for the tour.

One recent TripAdvisor user, who gave it the full five stars, said: ‘My favourite part was the Rope Bridge and the Game of Thrones Winterfell Castle. One word .... A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!’

The world’s largest travel site names the tour as one of the top ten summer attractions for the UK in the Seasonal Experiences Trend Index announced by TripAdvisor.

During the tour, visitors are taken on a scenic ride of all the filming hotspots along with listening to behind-the-scenes gossip and filming facts from guides.

The world’s No 1 TV show is continuing to draw hordes of visitors to Northern Ireland year after year.
