Wrap up! Cold and rainy Icelandic blast on way

- By Lisa O’Donnell

IT looks like any chances of the heatwave returning are slim – as a cold air mass from Iceland is to sweep in and send temperatures plummeting.

After a summer of soaring temperatures and drought-like conditions, the nation is set to be brought back to reality in the coming days.

The Icelandic blast will be responsible for cooler conditions expected for the rest of the week.

The mercury is set to drop to the mid-teens over the coming days, with lows of 14C forecast.

This mass will also bring showers for the remainder of the week.

Today will start brightly but heavy showers are expected from this afternoon, while tomorrow morning will see rain in the west spread right across the country throughout the day.

The weekend will see a slight improvement in conditions; temperatures could potentially reach 22C on Saturday, and 19C on Sunday.

However, there will be plenty of rain to dampen the hopes of sun worshippers. Saturday will begin dull and humid, with showers expected that night.

The weekend will end with heavy rain across the country, accompanied by some sunny spells.

Although we will see a rise in temperatures at the weekend, Met Éireann has confirmed there won’t be a return to the balmy conditions the country experienced previously this summer.

‘It is certainly not going to get as warm as it has been,’ a forecaster told the Irish Daily Mail.
