A Steps too far? Faye’s a trained dancer but she has ‘signed up’ for Strictly!

-

THEY’VE already come under fire for having experienced dancers competing on a TV show meant for novices. Now Strictly Come Dancing bosses are apparently enlisting a former pop singer for this year’s series.

However, critics say Faye Tozer, pictured, who was part of the Nineties group Steps, is simply too good at dancing. She is said to be one of the celebrities who will compete for the Glitterball trophy this autumn.

As well as learning energetic routines during her pop career, the singer, 42, has also starred in a string of West End shows including Singing in the Rain, Over The Rainbow and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s one-woman show Tell Me On A Sunday.

She is also trained in ballet and choreography, as well as ballroom, burlesque, salsa, jazz and tap.

Last year, the BBC show came under fire for booking Alexandra Burke and ex-boy band member Aston Merrygold, who both have dancing experience.

Viewers criticised the decision to sign up Debbie McGee – who trained at the Royal Ballet School.

But a television insider told a UKbased newspaper: ‘Few in the past have had quite so much professional performance time as Faye.

‘It will raise more questions over whether it’s fair for someone who has danced professionally to be up against people with no experience.’

A BBC official said: ‘We do not comment on speculation. The full Strictly lineup will be announced in due course.’

Other rumours coming from the studio suggest that pop star Cheryl may also be in this year’s line-up.

However, it seems unlikely as Cheryl, who split from partner Liam Payne earlier this year, has already signed on as a judge for Simon Cowell’s new talent show, The Greatest Dancer.

Elsewhere, TV personality Scarlett Moffatt has been tipped as a contender for Strictly.

The I’m A Celebrity... winner looks to be a sure bet for the line-up, having teased her fans about an ‘exciting’ project at the end of the year.

Chatting to her followers in an Instagram Q&A last month, she said: ‘I can’t announce anything yet but let’s just say the end of the year is going to be great fun.’

Scarlett, who is 28, even trained as a professional ballroom dancer in her teenage years.
