Jim would give his left foot to work with Dan again

-

FILMMAKER Jim Sheridan, right, has said he would love to make another movie with Daniel Day-Lewis – if he could only talk the acclaimed actor out of retirement.

The Irish director worked with DayLewis, left, on three successful films: My Left Foot, In The Name Of The Father and The Boxer.

Sheridan, 69, described the threetime Academy winner – who announced his retirement from acting over a year ago – as a ‘magical talent’ and said that he’d love to direct the Co. Wicklowbased father of three one last time.

He said: ‘There’s magic with Daniel, no matter what he does. He just has that X factor.’

Speaking of how he would ask the actor to work again, he said: ‘I wouldn’t approach him with a script. I wouldn’t want to be saying, “There’s a script – read it,” because every time I go out to the pub someone hands me a script.

‘But I’d say to him, “Would you ever think of acting again?” And if he said, “yes”, I’d suggest we should find a story.’

Despite having 13 Oscar nominations between My Left Foot, The Field and In The Name Of The Father, Sheridan said he finds it difficult these days to get films bankrolled because he’s competing against so many blockbusters.

Speaking on TV3’s The Six O’Clock Show, the Dubliner said: ‘They’ve decided for the first time since Greek tragedy that people don’t want to see dramas, which is a load of nonsense.’
