How to get around when the Pope’s in town

GARDAÍ are urging people to take public transport as they make their way to Papal events in Dublin and Knock. There is a dedicated helpline (01-222-888) operating until Monday for informatio­n on road closures.

DUBLIN Roads/Taxis Most roads will be closed in the city centre today and tomorrow between 6am and 7pm. Tomorrow, no taxis will be allowed into Phoenix Park and can enter the controlled access zone only if conditions allow. The East Link bridge, the Port Tunnel and M1 will operate as normal. Cycling Cyclists will not be allowed to travel along the designated walking routes from transport hubs to the park. Dublin Bikes says around 30% of its stations will be closed over the weekend. Bus services Bus Éireann will be increasing capacity by around 100% to bring people to and from the capital. Rail services Extra Dart and commuter services will operate tomorrow before and after the Mass. Dublin Bus Dublin Bus will operate a normal Saturday service today, with significan­t diversions both today and tomorrow. Luas Trams will operate on a six- to ten-minute frequency, but passengers are warned to expect long waiting times. Red Line: today From 3.15pm to 5pm there will be no service between Busaras and Four Courts. Red Line: tomorrow There will be no service between Blackhorse and Smithfield from 7am until 10pm. Green Line - today From 10.30am to 5pm there will be no service between Dawson and Parnell. Green Line - tomorrow The Phibsborou­gh stop will be closed from 3pm-10pm. KNOCK A shuttle bus service will operate from Claremorri­s train station to the shrine.

Bus Éireann will operate extra services from Swinford to Claremorri­s, and from Athlone to Westport to cater for increased demand. A number of roads will be closed, including a stretch of the N17.
