Boy accused over Ana faces murder trial

- By Tom Tuite

A SECOND boy accused of the murder of 14-year-old Anastasia Kriegel has been sent for trial at the Central Criminal Court.

The boy, also 14, who cannot be named as he is a minor, is accused of the murder of the schoolgirl at Glenwood House in Lucan, Co. Dublin, on May 14.

Anastasia’s body was found at a derelict farmhouse three days after she was reported missing.

The boy made his seventh appearance at the Children’s Court yesterday when he was served with a book of evidence by Detective Inspector Mark O’Neill.

His co-accused, a 13-year-old boy, was served with a book of evidence on Tuesday and was sent for trial to the Central Criminal Court.

Anastasia, known as Ana, who was adopted from Russia at the age of two, left home in Leixlip, Co. Kildare, at about 5pm on May 14 but did not return. Her parents were unable to contact her phone and raised the alarm that evening. Her body was later found at a disused farmhouse.

Alva O’Herlihy, for the State, told Judge Brian O’Shea yesterday the DPP agreed to the boy being sent for trial.

During the hearing the boy sat between his mother and father who held his hands as they listened to the proceedings.

Aisling Mulligan, defending, successfully applied for legal aid for the boy to include representation by senior and junior counsel.
