Motorcycli­st dies after bike hits barrier in Waterford

A 22-YEAR-OLD motorcycli­st has been killed in a crash in Co. Waterford.

Martin Walsh, from Rathpatric­k, Slieverue in Co. Kilkenny, died after his motorbike struck a barrier on the R675 Tramore Road near Waterford City shortly before 10pm on Thursday night.

He was pronounced dead at the scene and his body was taken to the mortuary at University Hospital Waterford where a post mortem was due to be carried out.

The local coroner has been notified of the incident.

Gardaí investigat­ing the death are appealing for witnesses.

The scene will be examined by Garda forensic collision investigat­ors this morning and local traffic diversions are in place at the crash site.

Gardaí have appealed for witnesses to contact them at Waterford Garda station on 051-305300 or the Garda Confidenti­al Line on 1800 666 111.

Meanwhile, gardaí at Balbriggan in Dublin are appealing for witnesses following the death of a male motorcycli­st on the southbound lane of the M1 between Junction 5 and Junction 4 at about 12.55am on Thursday morning.

Gardaí are appealing for informatio­n from any motorists who were travelling southbound between 12.30am and 1am, especially if their vehicles were fitted with dash cams.
