Is it a bird? is it a plane? No, it’s an ex-Superman!

HENRY Cavill has left fans baffled after posting a bizarre video hours after it emerged he hand hung up his Superman cape for good.

The actor, 35, seemingly addressed the news of his departure with a quirky Instagram clip posted to his account yesterday morning.

Adopting a stoic expression that mimicked his character, Cavill, pictured, silently raised a toy figure of Man Of Steel in the air as The Blue Danube played in the background before it rose into a crescendo.

Wearing a shirt that had the words ‘KRYPTON LIFTING TEAM’ written across the front, the star wrote in the caption: ‘Today was exciting #Superman.’

Fans were confused by the video, as they couldn’t tell whether Henry was confirming or denying the news of his departure, and many asked him to clarify what it meant.

One wrote: ‘I’m so confused please tell us because I’m hearing other things about Superman movies that there no more.’

While another said they thought it ‘means he’s staying’, a different user said: ‘I take it by this post you’re no longer Superman. It’s their loss really so maybe this gives you more time to be the next James Bond.’

On Wednesday, The Hollywood Reporter claimed that Cavill, who has played Superman in three films, couldn’t commit to a planned cameo in Shazam! due to a scheduling conflict and the studio was putting a stop to any future appearances in the franchise.

Warner Bros released a statement following the report, and said: ‘While no decisions have been made regarding any upcoming Superman films, we’ve always had great respect for and a great relationship with Henry Cavill, and that remains unchanged.’
