SAMANTHA Power, the former US ambassador to the United Nations, finds out about her colourful Irish ancestry. Her beloved grandfather, James Power, was a military intelligence officer during the Second World War and guarded German spies attempting to collaborate with the IRA. Ms Power, pictured, also learns about ancestors who were born and raised among the coalfields of Castlecomer, Co. Kilkenny. She discovers how one became the scourge of mine owners and the Catholic hierarchy as he stood up for workers’ rights. Finally she attempts to solve the mystery of why her great grandfather John Duffy, a Royal Irish Constabulary officer, was rumoured to have been given land by Michael Collins.
