McGregor handed six-fight deal by UFC ahead of Khabib battle

FIVE-TIME Olympic champion cyclist Bradley Wiggins has abandoned plans to bid to make the British rowing team at the 2020 Olympics. The 38-year-old told his eponymous Eurosport show: ‘I’m still training most days with it, but I’ve decided I’m not going to the Olympics because I’ve got too much other stuff to do. ‘I need to give myself a break. I haven’t got time to train three times a day. To the level I want to do it to, it’s a full-time job in itself. There’s too much going on.’ FOR the first time in 635 days, the Cleveland Browns have won a game. Baker Mayfield(above) replaced injured starter Tyrod Taylor and sparked the Browns and got two 1-yard touchdown runs from Carlos Hyde and beat the New York Jets 21-17 on Thursday night. I’ve been waiting for my moment,’ Mayfield said. CONOR McGREGOR (right) has agreed a new sixfight deal with the UFC which is set to make him the sport’s highest-ever earner. UFC President Dana White confirmed to American sports network ESPN that the Irish man had put pen to paper for six fights in the octagon, including his upcoming match-up with Khabib Nurmagomedov in Las Vegas on 6 October. McGregor hasn’t fought in the UFC in two years, but he remains its biggest draw and White predicts the Nurmagomedov event will attract 2.5 million pay-per-view subscriptions – nearly one million more than the previous record. Part of the deal sees the Notorious’s new brand of whiskey included as a sponsor for all of his fights and Proper Whiskey will appear on the canvas in Vegas next month. This is just another arm to McGregor’s impressive moneymaking machine. ‘It’s not hard to do a deal with Conor McGregor because we know what he’s worth,’ said White. BANNED Australian duo Steve Smith and David Warner will look to share their wealth of experience with budding cricketers when they make their highlyanticipated return to club cricket in Sydney today. The batsmen were suspended for a year for their part in a balltampering scandal during a test in South Africa earlier this year and also removed as captain and vice-captain of the national side. ‘Hopefully I can teach some of the young guys the game, help them learn,” Smith said in a video published by the Australian Cricketers’ Association.
