Hogg set for lengthy period on sidelines while Lam looks for a Bristol response

-

SCOTLAND’S autumn Test plans have been dented after Glasgow full-back Stuart Hogg was ruled out for up to three months following ankle surgery. The British & Irish Lions star is facing a recovery period of 10 to 12 weeks after suffering the injury against Munster earlier this month. And that is likely to see him sit out all four of the November internationals lined up for Gregor Townsend’s side against Wales, Fiji, South Africa and Argentina. Hogg said: ‘I’m gutted to be missing some important games over the next few months. ‘My focus just now is working hard and getting fit, so I can play my part in what is a long season. ‘I’d like to thank the medical staff at Glasgow Warriors and BMI Ross Hall Hospital for all their care and support.’ ÷England prop Kyle Sinckler will make his first start of the season when Harlequins take on Bristol at Ashton Gate. The 25-year-old was named in Eddie Jones’ England training squad this week, and will chase full match-sharpness now as the build-up to the November Tests intensifies. Quins must do without Mike Brown for a third week in succession, with the England full-back still battling a wrist issue. Centre Alapati Leiua returns for Bristol after a back problem, with boss Pat Lam itching to hit back to winning ways after defeat at Gloucester. ‘We’re hugely excited to return to Ashton Gate; it seems like a while since we played Bath on an amazing night with huge support, so everyone is looking forward to getting back home and trying to get the points versus Harlequins,’ said Lam. ÷Flanker Michael Hooper is back in a 30man Australia touring squad for Rugby Championship matches in South Africa and Argentina after recovering from a hamstring injury. The Wallabies captain was a late scratch from last weekend’s 23-19 loss to Argentina, the Pumas’ first win in Australia in 35 years. Australia coach Michael Cheika named flanker Angus Cottrell as one of two uncapped players in the squad.
