ROSS FACES GREAT BUS REVOLT

As Transport Minister Shane Ross says he’s not responsible for the new system, anger is growing among those who rely on the service

- By Catherine Murphy

With summer holidays over and children back at school, bus users across Dublin are waking up to the reality of the National Transport Authority’s controversial Bus Connects plan and exactly what the proposed radical overhaul of Dublin Bus services will mean. From Malahide on the north side to Chapelizod, Lucan and Leixlip in west county Dublin and leafy Enniskerry on the outskirts of south county Dublin, many communities stand to be adversely affected by the proposed changes. Yesterday Transport Minister Shane Ross said he fully supported the Bus Connects system, despite having told a meeting on Thursday night that he had nothing to do with it and had no responsibility for the NTA. And while there’s just one week left in the public consultation period, those campaigning against the plan say this is only the beginning. The NTA admits various areas will suffer under the proposals. We spoke to people from four parts of the city that will suffer the most.
