Slate-throwing naked climber draws armed response unit

- By Craig Hughes

ARMED gardaí were called to an incident in north Dublin yesterday after a man scaled a building, stripped naked and began throwing slates at onlookers.

Roads were closed and several armed Garda response units, members of the ambulance and fire brigade units were called to Fassaugh Road in Cabra.

A series of videos of the event emerged online.

Initially the man can be seen sitting on a roof, fully dressed, talking with two gardaí on the ground while a large number of locals look on.

He can be heard shouting ‘shoot me, shoot me’ before turning and climbing further up the roof.

He then throws slates at gardaí, who were equipped with a protective shield.

As one garda approached the property from the rear, he was spotted by the man, who proceeded to strip naked.

At one point, the man almost lost his balance as he heaved at the building’s chimney.

The man appeared to be known to local residents, who referred to him by his first name and pleaded with him to get down.

Shortly after 4pm yesterday, the Garda Twitter account tweeted that they were at the scene of an incident on Fassaugh Road and that traffic diversions had been put in place.

An hour later they provided an update, saying: ‘The incident has come to a safe conclusion on Fassaugh Avenue and all roads now reopened.’
