Battling Watford held at Craven Cottage

- By RYAN KENT

HIGH-FLYING Watford are still sitting pretty in the top-four of the Premier League. A fine start to the season has left Javi Gracia’s men in good shape, though it could have been even better at Craven Cottage on Saturday. Andre Gray’s secondminute goal was followed by a powerhouse performance from striker Troy Deeney, and equally so, Fulham’s goalkeeper Marcus Bettinelli. Watford’s press meant Fulham were lucky to only be one goal down at half time. However it was their profligacy in front of goal that cost the Hornets as Aleksandar Mitrovic made the visitors pay for not putting the game to bed. The Serb equalised in the 78th minute ensure a fortunate share of the spoils for Slavisa Jokanovic’s men. Meanwhile, at Turf Moor the home side made their dominance on the field show on the scoreline. Two quick-fire goals from Matej Vydra and Aaron Lennon before half time was just the fillip that Sean Dyche needed. The Clarets boss will no doubt have urged his team to keep doing what they were doing in the second half and they repaid him with a brace from Ashley Barnes. Leicester showed their steel against visiting Huddersfield Town as David Wagner’s men took an early lead at the King Power Stadium. Mathias Jorgensen got the Terriers off and running early doors. However that lead didn’t last long. Kelechi Iheanacho levelled matters in the 19th minute before James Maddison put his new side in front midway into the second half. The win was secured by Jamie Vardy in the 75th minute. And finally, it started with a murmur, but it ended with loud and fervent chants. Chants of ‘sell up’. Mike Ashley was at Selhurst Park — the owner finally watching his team again — as Crystal Palace and Newcastle played out 0-0 draw.
