Metallica set for Slane... and Oasis after that?

-

METALLICA will play Slane Castle on June 8 next year, and promoters have revealed that their next goal is to get Oasis to play the Co. Meath venue for a third time.

While the notoriously fiery Gallagher brothers supported R.E.M. there in 1995 and headlined in 2009, it will be the first time the Los Angeles band, pictured, have played the venue, and it will be their first Irish concert since their Marlay Park gig in Dublin nine years ago.

Speaking via video link during yesterday’s announcement at the castle, Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich and bassist Robert Trujillo said they were ‘psyched’ about their World Wired tour.

Slane Castle owner Lord Henry Mountcharles said: ‘Slane was kind of on their bucket list. They haven’t played in Ireland for ten years. I always thought they were an extraordinary and influential band and it’s fair to say that we zeroed in on Metallica and them on us.’

Speaking to the Irish Daily Mail, MCD promoter Denis Desmond said the reason bands such as Metallica want to play Slane is because: ‘It’s a day out – there are no restrictions in volume, you can turn it up to 11.’

And he said ‘an offer is on the table’ for Oasis, and that both Noel and Liam Gallagher are well aware of it.

‘We promote Liam, and we promote Noel. Liam has always said someday they will [reform],’ said Desmond.

‘There’s always an offer on the table, and they know it. It goes up every week. And they know that as well.’

Metallica tickets go on sale on Friday.
