Du Beke’s tip for Strictly smoochers: ‘Don’t drink!’

- By Fionnuala Moran

ANTON du Beke has weighed in on Seann Walsh and Katya Jones’s cheating scandal, and he’s not one bit impressed.

The controversial Strictly Come Dancing pairing were photographed kissing each other in public after having a few drinks, despite both being in long-term relationships.

Du Beke, a professional dancer on the TV show, gave the pair some blunt advice.

‘Don’t drink. If that’s what happens, stop,’ he told Ryan Tubridy, who was presenting his RTÉ Radio 1 show from the BBC’s Wogan House, ahead of the special edition of The Late Late Show being broadcast from London this evening.

Comedian Walsh has been heckled heavily online since news broke that the kiss happened on his girlfriend’s birthday. He had been with Rebecca Humphries for five years before the incident. She has since dumped him and released a statement in which she made damning allegations that he behaved in a verbally abusive manner toward her.

Katya has been married to fellow Strictly professional dancer Neil Jones since 2013.

When Tubridy asked if he had any sympathy for the latest contestants to fall foul to the Strictly curse, du Beke answered bluntly: ‘Not really.’

‘I’ll tell you one thing, I’m a bit disappointed,’ he said of the incident. ‘I don’t know how they’re going to resolve it in their relationships but it’s their business and they must do that.’ Du Beke believes it’s crucial that the pair take responsibility for their actions and do the right thing by their partners.

Following the incident, Walsh and Jones have made public apologies and been forced to make their dance for tomorrow ‘less sexy’. The pair addressed the scandal during an appearance on It Takes Two on BBC Two on Wednesday night, expressing their ‘regret’ following the impromptu kiss. They have since returned to rehearsals for the dance show, as Strictly bosses confirmed they would not be axed following the scandal. The pair were yesterday seen filming ahead of tomorrow’s live show, looking tense in a contrast from the cosy display they showed earlier this week after their now-infamous night out in London.
