Take five for the Irish outfit about to go global

- Barry Arnold by

PICTURE This are aiming to become the ‘biggest band in the world’ and no one can deny they’ve made a good start.

This week they announced the release date of their sophomore album MDRN LV and an unprecedented five-night residency in Dublin’s 3Arena in March 2019.

An incredible feat for a band just two years old — but singer Ryan Hennessy always aimed for the top. ‘Two years ago I didn’t imagine at all we’d be here, I always dreamed of this as soon as we started,’ he says.

‘As a band we always wanted to be the best and the biggest, whether or not I thought it was achievable or not was another thing — because it doesn’t happen very often. But we were confident at the same ime.’

They’ve already had a triple-platinum, chart-topping debut album, and sell-out shows at the 3Arena and RDS. Now Picture This are also setting off on a European tour and Ryan says they haven’t had time to take it all in.

‘It’s just constantly going over our heads which is a good thing,’ adds Ryan. ‘If we sit around and think about it we’d get a big head. The best way to keep grounded is just to ignore it.’

The five back-to-back Picture This 3Arena shows will take place next year from March 27 to 31, and Ryan insists excitement trumps any nerves with aplomb.

‘It makes me so excited, I just can’t wait,’ he says. ‘Playing live shows is just my favourite thing in the world. This new music that we have coming out is a lot more big pop tunes, which is going to be amazing to play live. Big live songs.

‘It’s going to be crazy. The new album will be out and everything. I’m really excited for the whole tour.’

MDRN LV will be released on February 15 next year and tickets for the Dublin dates go on sale next Wednesday, October 24 at 9am at ticketmaster.ie
