Are you coddin’ me? Boyzone’s Shane goes fishing

-

BOYZONE’S Shane Lynch is set to become a deep-sea trawlerman for a new television reality show.

The Dubliner, 42, pictured, has netted the role in the celebrity fishing series and will be joined on board by two celebrity crewmates – British rugby star Ben Cohen and chef Antony Worrall-Thompson.

The four-part programme’s working title is Call Yourself A Fisherman and sees the trio bedecked in oilskins and wellies for ‘one of the most dangerous jobs in Britain’.

It will see the three personalities join the crew of a deep-sea trawler for 12 days off the northwest coast of Scotland. The celebrities will see first-hand the challenges and dangers that come with fishing on the high seas in all weathers for monkfish, cod and haddock. It will also explore the potential fallout from Brexit for the UK’s fishing industry.

The Deadliest Catch-esque series has been commissioned from Keo Films for Channel 5, with the air date yet to be announced.

Born-again Christian Lynch, who is currently on a farewell world tour with Boyzone, admitted he wanted to shed his boyband image for the rugged seafaring role by letting his shaved hair grow out. ‘I made a conscious decision not to turn up like a pop star, all groomed and stuff, especially in what is a real man’s world. I didn’t want to be neat. Yes, that’s the word, neat,’ the singer told Northern Woman magazine.

Lynch is no stranger to reality television, of course. Earlier this year, he came third in Celebrity Big Brother, while he won the gold medal on Channel 4 celebrity sports game show The Games in 2004. He also appeared on the second series of Love Island.
