Claim your health costs

-

TAX relief can be claimed on the cost of your own health expenses, or those of someone else, as long as you paid for them. Tax back for health expenses is received at the 20% standard rate, and claims must be made within four years.

Among the costs you can claim are dental expenses. Tax relief can only be claimed for non-routine dental care, however. There are also special diet expenses for coeliacs who must purchase gluten-free food, and diabetics who must buy diabetic products. A doctor’s letter must be provided stating you have special dietary needs, and receipts must be kept.

Tax relief can also be claimed for healthcare for a child under 18, or an older child in full-time education. This covers lifethreatening illnesses or permanent disabilities, transport costs to and from hospital, and speech and language therapy.
