HUNDREDS of pupils affected by the schools construction scandal will be accommodated at other locations when they return to class next Monday.

The Department of Education confirmed last night that some students who attend Dublin schools Tyrrelstown Educate Together National School, St Luke’s NS and Gaelscoil Eiscir Riada, Lucan, will ‘require an element of interim accommodation after the mid-term break’.

These schools, which are three-storey buildings, require improvements both internally and externally.

A spokesperson for the department last night said they will confirm the location of the interim accommodation in the coming days.

Transport will also be provided for students who will be relocated.

The spokesman said the department hopes to send students to schools nearby. Other solutions have been suggested to the department, such as the use of sport centres.

An inspection into 42 schools built by Western Building Systems was launched by the Education Minister Joe McHugh last week.
