Pay deal rejected

-

THE Irish National Teachers Organisation has rejected a Government proposal on the ‘new entrant’ salary scale.

INTO members voted by 53% to 47% – with a turnout of 55% – to reject the proposals to restore pay equality for so-called new entrants recruited to the public service since 2011.

General secretary Sheila Nunan said the proposal ‘failed to signal an end to pay inequality for all new entrants’, and added: ‘Acting in solidarity with their colleagues who are paid less for doing the same job, our membership has signalled that they will not stand for any agreement which leaves them in a similar position.’

INTO’s Central Executive Committee will meet next week to consider a forthcoming ballot on industrial action.
