Front runners this season are all the tartan and checks heritage prints inspired by Miu Miu who worked with 80s-inspired tweed coats, and Raf Simons at Calvin Klein who slung grandad tweed coats over delicate prairie dresses — now filtering through to the high street in brown, mauve, pistachio, orange and smoky greys.
Brands like MSGM at Brown Thomas and Triona in Arnotts have been experimenting with colour while Zara and Magee have been shaking up traditional weaves. Also at the top of everyone lists is the Teddy coat, landing into in shop windows in rich chocolate and caramel browns.
Not quite faux fur and not shearling, it’s fleecy and textured, the kind of coat you don’t need to sacrifice warmth over style for. An oversized caramel knee-grazing version is one of Marks and Spencers heroes this season while shorter, cropped versions are at Zara, HM and & Other Stories.
Your coat becomes an extension of you as you wear it every day so choose carefully. And remember that come December, warmth is a must so it’s okay to hold out for the heavy hitters to land in stores.
